THIS WE BELIEVE

This We Believe was a Staff Crew (professional development) experience planned to clarify our school identity, strengthen school community, and create a collaborative work of art.

First, staff read, analyzed, and discussed six belief statements from our school handbook. Veteran staff made connections to practices and ideas as new staff digested the information for the first time.

A paint by number challenge was presented. Each person painted a square or two that formed a larger image. As the squares were placed in their proper places, next to squares painted by others, two faces began to form. The studios buzzed with excitement as the portraits were of two of our recent graduates.

Together, we reflected on our work. In what ways did creating this work of art mirror educating children? What did we learn about each other in the process? Do we really believe what we say we believe about our school?

The resulting artworks will be framed and permanently installed in a prominent place in the school community.
